The IPOPI Asian PID Patients and Doctors’ Meeting was held on 1–2 March in Bangkok, Thailand and brought together patient leaders, clinicians, and experts from across the region for two days of exchange, learning, and collaboration to advance the diagnosis, care, and recognition of Primary Immunodeficiencies in Asia.
The meeting gathered nearly 60 participants representing patient organisations, medical professionals, and advocates from 14 countries. Through presentations, discussions, and workshops, the event created a valuable platform for sharing experiences, strengthening regional connections, and exploring practical solutions to common challenges faced by PID communities.
The programme covered key topics shaping the PID landscape in Asia, including diagnosis pathways, genetic testing and counselling, newborn screening initiatives, immunoglobulin therapy access and reimbursement, plasma collection, transplantation, and the latest developments in gene therapy. Participants also explored the importance of mental health support and the transition from paediatric to adult care.
Interactive sessions and collaborative workshops encouraged participants to identify actionable steps to improve access to diagnosis and treatment in their countries, while also strengthening cooperation between patient organisations across the region.
The meeting further highlighted the growing impact of patient organisations in Asia and their essential role in raising awareness, supporting families, and advocating for improved policies and care for people living with PIDs. We have a lot to learn from each other.
IPOPI warmly thanks all participants, speakers, and partner organisations for their active contributions and engagement.
Special thanks also go to the sponsors, Grifols and LaCar, for their support in making this meeting possible.
