Meet Our Speakers

Dr Jacques Rivière is a passionate pediatric immunologist dedicated to rare diseases and the humanization of medicine. He completed his pediatric training in 2017 at Vall d’Hebron Hospital, at the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic and Research Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies in Barcelona. In 2016, he had the opportunity to further his training abroad, working with Dr Elie Haddad at a renowned immunology center in Montréal, Canada, specializing in clinical immunology and rheumatology.

Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Rivière pursued a Master’s degree in Pediatric Infectology and Immunology at the University of Barcelona. Since July 2017, he has been an integral part of Dr. Soler’s team, in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunodeficiencies Unit at Vall d’Hebron Hospital where he has the privilege of attending for individuals with immune deficiencies and their families.

Currently, in addition to providing care for patients with Inborn Errors of Immunity, Dr Rivière serves as the clinical coordinator of the Advanced Immunology Testing Laboratory within the Infection and Immunity in Pediatric Patients Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute. Within the group, he also leads various projects, including PIDCAP, which focuses on implementing computational tools for immunodeficiency screening in Primary Care.

Driven by his interest in leveraging technology for patients’ and professionals’ convenience, he currently serves as the ERN-RITA clinical representative for the European Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) platform. Through this role, he aims to ensure access to expert guidance and support for patients across Europe, regardless of their location or proximity to specialized centers.

Prof Stephen Jolles is a Consultant Clinical Immunologist and Honorary Professor at the University Hospital of Wales. He is Clinical Lead in the Immunodeficiency Centre of Wales, Co-Director of the Hub Immunology Diagnostic Laboratory of Wales and Clinical Lead for the Adult SWAN (Syndrome Without A Name) clinic.

Stephen Jolles trained in immunology and allergy, and obtained his PhD on Langerhans cell migration at the National Institute for Medical Research, London. He has a particular interest in the clinical use of immunoglobulin and its mechanism of action, and his research interests include the development of new therapeutic products, new screening strategies to improve the laboratory diagnosis of primary and secondary immunodeficiency and allergy, and better ways to monitor primary and secondary immunodeficiency disease and the impact of treatments.
