Briefing Session: IPOPI Supports SGPI Symposium in Belgrade: Advancing the Fight Against Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs)

On 4-5 April 2025, IPOPI was proud to participate in a groundbreaking meeting in Novi Sad, Serbia, followed by the highly anticipated ”Decoding Inborn Errors of Immunity: From Molecular Roots to Therapeutic Frontiers” symposium in Belgrade. Organised by IPOPI in collaboration with local partners, this event highlighted the critical importance of an interdisciplinary approach in diagnosing and treating primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs). It brought together healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and experts, reaffirming IPOPI’s commitment to improving the lives of those affected by rare immune disorders.

Otilia Stanga, IPOPI Board Member and Regional Responsible for Eastern and Central Europe, took the floor during the First Symposium on Immune System Disorders with International Participation on 5 April at the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Belgrade. The symposium, which attracted over 150 immunologists, specialists, and around 30 individuals living with PID, featured sessions enriched by renowned national and international speakers. These discussions fostered dynamic exchanges and provided valuable learning opportunities, emphasising the importance of collaboration in tackling complex immunodeficiencies.

Martine Pergent, IPOPI’s President, also addressed the audience on 5 April, highlighting the significance of improving multidisciplinary care for those living with chronic health conditions, particularly PIDs. By engaging key regional stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, patient representatives, and institutions, the symposium reinforced IPOPI’s shared goal of enhancing patient care through coordinated efforts and comprehensive treatment strategies.

Looking forward, SGPI and POsPID have already announced the next edition of the symposium, which will take place on 18 April 2026 in Novi Sad. This exciting initiative continues to grow, offering even more opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advancements in the field, with IPOPI’s continued support.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Nataša Gojković, Chairperson of IPOPI’s National Member Organisation (NMO), Ljiljana Vujasin, activist board member, Dr Maja Stojanović, and Dragana Koruga for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the success of this event.

The SGPI 2025 Symposium served as a distinguished scientific and professional gathering, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating congenital immune system disorders, collectively known as Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI). With IPOPI’s involvement, the symposium created an essential platform for the exchange of knowledge, clinical expertise, and networking opportunities, all of which will contribute to advancing the understanding of IEI and improving patient outcomes globally.

As part of IPOPI’s mission, the sharing of knowledge and enhancement of professional expertise will help improve the care and quality of life for those living with these complex immune disorders, ensuring they receive the best possible care worldwide.
